About this holiday home
Vidal Bezy is an ancient hameau (hamlet) and in the past there were 3 houses. The story has been told that in the middle ages our barn was a resting place for horses and the higher Vidal Bezy offered an overnight stay for travellers. In the old chimney from our main house (still a ruin) is the date 1649 engraved, and the house and the barn shows that they have been built in several eras. On the other site of the valley they found the remains of a Roman villa when the owner was digging for a pool.
Vidal Bezy lies on a very quiet spot with spectacular views over the valley. We have 2 gites ready, and in one of them we are living ourselves, until the main house is ready. Gite Lavender is available from the summer of 2020 as a spacious holiday home for 4 persons. All is built on 1 level and offers a nice place to stay for disabled people. The outside walls are very thick and insulated, so the house stays warm in the winter and nice and cool in the summer.
location
Vidal Bezy is situated near Lacardayre next to the D656 from Cahors to Agen. Our access road is a little country road. There is no through traffic, only walkers and bikers.

Enjoy the region

Farms of character
The breathtaking landscape shows big and expansive white plateaus, with valleys and little streams. The farms have red tiled roofs and white stone walls and often a Pigeonnier (pigeon tower).
Because of the arable farms the landscape changes with the rhythm of the seasons. Lots of coloured meadows, fields with grains, tobacco, oil seed rape and sunflowers throughout the year.
Orchards and vineyards
The orchards with the prune trees which produce the famous Pruneaux d’Agen, are typical for the area. Not too far away you will find the vineyards of Cahors, Bordeaux, Buzet and Bergerac . A good company of gastronomic delights, which you will find in abundance. And also for a digestive you are in the right area, with the Cognac area in the north east and the Armagnac area in the south west of our region.
Rich history
In the south west of France, the Midi Pyrenees, lies the region that before was formerly called Quercy –Blanc, named after the oak forests and the limestone bottom. This area was a part of the most northern part of Gascogne. Since the French Revolution it is called the department Tarn-et –Garonne, next to Lot et Garonne. You will find several remains of the history. Because it resembles the French Toscana.
There are lots of medieval villages and towns in the surrounding area with Lauzerte and Pujols ( Les plus Beaux Villages de France). These villages and towns are located in beautiful rolling landscape with spectacular views over the area.
The possibilities for sport and relaxing activities are numerous. In the direct area are several hiking routes. There are also several Grand Randonnees (GR) throughout the area, as well as a pilgrim route.
At the lake at Montaigu de Quercy you can take a swim. For horseriding, mountainbiking and canoeing there are many possibilities.
If you are looking for golf courses, you have a choice of two nearby. Taking your car through the area with the bastide towns on the hills and the far-reaching view, you will have great enjoyment.
Taste the culture
Marche gourmands
You can choose from a lot of local activities to get to know the culture of the area. From a museum to little festivals or just a visit to one of the authentic villages and towns. For those who like the product of the region our area offers: Maigret de canard, Foie gras (there is even a special musée du foie gras very near), pruneaux, melons du Quercy and of course the wine. There is a lot to discover and to enjoy. In July and August there will be Marche Gourmands in the villages around us. Find a place at one of the tables and buy local food at the market stalls around the place. French live music will make the atmosphere complete.
Cozy villages and terraces
The rural villages and the strategically located bastide towns, which are located high above the landscape, offers markets with products of the region, cultural festivals, cosy streets and terraces where you can profit without worries from a nice glass of wine or a French dinner in the sunshine.
At a distance of 10 km, is Roquecor, where you will find a nice café with terrace and a little supermarket where you can buy fresh bread and local produce. On Sunday morning there is a market with fresh fruit, vegetables, meat, bread, cheese and wine from a local producer.

Who are we?

Mario and Marianne started their search in 2009 for a place in France and found what they were looking for in the Lot and Garonne, for the beautiful nature, quietness and space. Vidal Bezy was then a ruin and Mario as a builder saw his chance… from this he could make something out of it!!
The hameau (hamlet) Vidal Bezy was as that moment a ruin and Mario as a builder, with more than 30 years contractor, took his chance. He could make something out of this!!
The first years we were working on our domain during our holidays whilst continuing with our working life in the Netherlands. But after a few years we decided that it was going too slowly. And we liked the French way of life so much that we emigrated in 2013 to Vidal Bezy.
We are very pleased we have made the decision. Mario is on a daily basis working on the renovation and has finally reached the work on the main house, Maison de Maître. Of course the noisy work stops when you are living in the gite.
Marianne wants to offer unforgettable holidays to people who are having problems to find accommodation which is adapted to their disability. She has, after her study, many years with passion worked in the care profession and likes to offer her knowledge and skill to her guests. On your request you can make use of this. And you can indicate which tools you will be needing. A hospital bed for example can be placed in the gite if you wish.
Both Mario and Marianne could show you some interesting places in the region. Little medieval Bastide villages, the nice views from the picturesque river Lot, a concert in a hidden church or a visit to the markets in the region with special products. In short, excursions for your interests.
2019: this is the year in which the second gite was finished. We will put some before and after pictures on the website and it is up to you to experience. We are very happy and pleased with the result!
